Abstract
This paper describes the progress in knowledge elicitation of an ongoing research project of the Construction Law Research Unit (CLRU) at the School of Building and Estate Management (SBEM), National University of Singapore (NUS). The form of contract here refers to SIA87 which refers to 'Articles and Conditions of Building Contract published by the Singapore Institute of Architects, 3rd. Edition, 1987, Measurement Contract (MC) or Lump Sum Contract (LSC) versions. The approaches for the earlier forms of contract namely SIA69 and SIA70 were based on the JCT63 form of contract. The SIA87 form of contract has an entirely different approach. In this respect this is not a revision of the earlier form of contract but rather a new form of contract. Knowledge engineering been accepted as the bottleneck in the development of an expert system. In the legal system domain the knowledge engineer faces very much the same situation. How these problems of knowledge elicitation are addressed in this project.
