Abstract
Nonlinear finite element analyses of typical gusset plate connections for braced frames were made to develop design equations. Forces and moments determined from a braced frame subassembly were used to determine the gusset plate stresses and strains and the forces in the connecting elements which comprised weldments, single plates, and framing angles. Force deformation relationships for the complex material and geometric nonlinear behavior of the connecting elements were generated from laboratory tests. Results of these analyses were compared with limited data from full-scale laboratory test structures.
