Abstract
As a practicing Engineer with more than 5 years experience in the application of low cost microcomputers in the building industry I have seen our ideas, hopes and expectations change most dramatically. In this paper I attempt to set down what we have learned as a user and vendor/developer of software for low cost microcomputers, what we consider to be the present 'state of the art', and our expectations for the future.
