Abstract
Parallel to the rapid development of computer hardware during the last two decades there has been a revolution in software development also. Due to the free market type of developments in these areas the quality of products vary widely, ranging from dependable software to quite unworkable packages. Some of the characteristics of good engineering software are discussed in this paper. Issues related to software development along with problems and possible solutions are also discussed.
