Abstract
This paper examines soil structure interaction effects in pile groups subjected to lateral load A three dimensional elastic approach for laterally loaded pile groups is developed and used as a means of investigating the effectiveness of two dimensional plane stress and plane strain finite element approximations for this case. This comparison is subsequently used to assess the influence of soil stiffness non-linearity and soil strength on the pile spacing dependence of a group's lateral stiffness.
