Abstract
This paper deals with the problem of optimum design of a branched network for water supply. Besides to provide a software for automatic calculations, the methodology allows to minimize costs of the pipeline system, which constitutes the main cost of a gravity system. All technical factors are considered in formulation: minimum pressure heads, maximum velocities, continuity equations, etc. The optimization problem was formulated through a nonlinear programming technique, solved by means a Projected Lagrangian Algorithm. The proposed methodology was evaluated in a part of a real network. The results of this application shows a good performance of the model.
