Summary
The paper is concerned with an analysis and numerical solution of a topology optimization problems for bodies in unilateral contact using a phase field approach. The topology optimization problem consists of the normal contact stress minimization with respect to the material density distribution function. The cost functional also includes surface and bulk energy terms. These terms permit control of global perimeter constraint and the occurence of the intermediate solution values. The optimal topology is obtained as the steady state of the phase transition governed by the Cahn-Hilliard equation. The finite element and the finite difference methods are used as the discretization methods. Numerical examples are provided and discussed.
