Summary
In this paper, solid and fluid mechanics methodologies are used to provide a two-way fluid-solid coupled numerical simulation of a fuel tank, with a 50% fuel oil load, under a generator train, which respectively bears specified impacts from different directions. In order to reliably ensure the strength safety of the tank, sloshing conditions of the fuel oil and instantaneous stress distribution of the tank structure are analysed. Finally, a corresponding improvement plan is proposed to remedy the vulnerable areas of the tank.
