Abstract
Structural design systems generally require significant input from the engineer, since they have too little "intelligence" to automatically produce designs to the expert's satisfaction.

This paper illustrates and discusses the development of a tool kit of intelligent structural objects which allows the structural engineer to automate a large part of his work. The objects also allow the user to control their behaviour in applications requiring additional expertise.
