Abstract
A knowledge-based system, Ratu-aj, has been developed for determining durations of site activities. It is based on the Finnish system of production files, Ratu-files, developed for new build construction work. Ratu-aj is structured hierarchically and combines lower level work task durations into a higher level activity duration. Standardised computer screen forms and graphical symbols make Ratu-aj easier and quicker to use than under manual conditions. The current version is employed in estimating the durations of large shuttering panel tasks.
