Abstract

Some of the commonly used methods of plastic analysis of steel portal frames are reviewed with particular reference to computer-aided design. One of these, the elasto-plastic method, is described in the context of a program written by the authors, and some of the advantages of this method are discussed. A general comparison between approaches to the design of portal frames using various levels of computer-aided design is made in terms of design time.
