Abstract
Yield-line analysis is a well established method of calculating the upper bound failure load of reinforced concrete slabs for which no general computerised method of solution has so far been developed. Previous work by the authors on slabs subjected to uniformly distributed loads only has now been extended to include edge supported slabs subjected to any combination of uniform, point or line loads and to include slabs which are supported along free edges by beams. All the necessary equations required to obtain a solution are developed ab initio and various examples of how complex patterns can be solved by a relatively simple program are demonstrated. Future extensions to include column supported slabs and more sophisticated methods of inputting data are discussed.
