Abstract
Today many Civil and Structural application programs for computer aided design and engineering are available helping the designer and engineer in parts of the total design process of a project. Transferring results from one phase of the process to the other phase is seldom computer supported especially when it concerns exchange between different disciplines. The traditional exchange of data via drawings and documents is time consuming, inconsistency creating and redundancy invoking. It also is an obstacle in shortening the design cycle which is needed to do real optimization. Integration of local applications around a central database is proposed as a solution.
