Abstract
The designers in the field of civil and structural engineering are using perhaps hundreds of different CAD systems in the world and new ones are being developed continually. At the same time one can read in the newspapers of the unprofitable operation of CAD in long time use. So it is a good reason to think, if the most of energy in the developing work is directed to wrong objects. Today most of the development happens around the old big systems, which mainly have been useful for drawing. Too little work is directed to develope new integrated systems.

KPM Consulting Engineers specialized in designing of steel and timber structures has been a user of computers for design purposes for five to six years. In these years an own way in the use of computers and in the developing of software has been found. The work has been started by structural analysis and step by step after it towards the integrated systems. This paper summarises the outcome of that experience.
