Abstract
The objective of the overall research work is the development of a prototype model that aims at organising, processing and storing ground information. The prime objective is to automate the process of earthwork optimisation through the utilisation of intelligent design rules, standardised procedures and naming conventions. This model will aid the construction team by allowing all information related to the ground to be better organised. Also the re-design process will be made simpler by automating it using design links. Costs will automatically be applied to the relevant quantities using a Detailed Costing Model (DCM).
