Abstract
Contractor prequalification for a Design-Build project is a crucial decision making task for construction clients. This paper discusses a proposed model for contractor prequalification. It also proposes an expert system framework for enhancing the effectiveness of such complex decision making, which is often made difficult by the many variables and subjective elements. The paper discusses the development of some sample modules of a prototype expert system for Design-Build contractor prequalification. These modules will form parts of the proposed expert system, which itself will be the first part of a proposed decision support system for Design-Build contractor selection.
