Abstract
On the basis of theoretical hygro-elasticity, completed with experimental and numerical results on the properties of hygroscopic materials, the possible engineering application of fiber reinforced composite structure with hygroscopic element in civil engineering is displayed.

The paper highlights the possibility of taking advantage of hygroscopic property despite the general opinion being the moisture absorption disadvantage.
