Abstract
This study presents the results of the global orthotropic behavior of granular materials due to the influence of fabric variation in the two-dimensional case. It shows that the characteristics of isotropic materials in two-dimensional case may be simulated by a granular assembly with fabric diagram represented by a circle. On the other hand, the mechanical behavior of orthotropic materials can be imitated through an elliptical fabric diagram. The larger the ratio between long and short axes of fabric ellipse is, the bigger the difference of stiffness ratio will be. This clearly indicates an apparent distinction of orthotropic response of the material.
