Abstract
The paper presents numerical techniques connected with non-linear analysis of structures by means of the Finite Element Method. An algorithm for the determination of equilibrium paths is presented using the arc length method. Attention is given to the effective techniques to approach the critical point and to pass onto the secondary post-bifurcation branch of the path. These techniques are an extension of the basic arc length method by the possibility of an exact analysis of critical points. General strategy of establishing equilibrium paths and automatic control of incremental process is proposed. The presented algorithms are investigated in several test examples.
