Abstract
This paper presents an interactive pre-processor with graphic input developed for use in computer-aided-design of tall building structures. Using this pre-processor, the prime information can be input into the computer through graphic display. The graph displayed on screen is not only a reflection of the input data, but also a means to input data or primitive information. Thereby input and processing are mixed together. The pre-processing is often done while the input is being carried on. Any correction or modification of the data can be made directly to the graphs on the screen. With the interactive prompts, a designer can carry out the input rapidly and efficiently by keying in some basic data and moving the cursor on the screen to modify the graph which represents the information of the structure. Using multi-color graphics, animated cartoon, multiple windows and multiple level menus, auto-generation and auto-numbering of the members are performed and the geometric and loading information can be entered expeditiously and conveniently. The basic concept and algorithm of graphic input and screen data collection are described in this paper.
