Abstract
A revision of the existing h-adaptive strategies based upon the equidistribution of the energy of the error is made. Two h-adaptive strategies for singular problems are proposed, one based upon the equidistribution of the error and the other upon a non-uniform distribution of the error. The behaviour of the proposed strategies and that of the one used by Zienkiewicz and Zhu are studied for singular problems in plane elasticity, using three-noded displacement elements.
