Abstract
Often during the design of an artefact, several versions of the components of, the artefact are proposed before the final design is arrived at. Likewise, when using previous designs, versions of components are developed. In concurrent design, mechanisms for handling these versions and their compatibility are needed. A design environment for handling such problems is under development and the structure and components of the system are described. To give the system a practical focus, a problem from the domain of bridge design has been selected.
