Abstract
A new technique of normal mode analysis for laminated panels is introduced using a strip hpe of element which combines the classical and numerical approaches, taking advantage of both methods. Much greater accuracy is achieved compared to conventional finite element methods, with substantially simplified numerical procedures. Closed form solutions of isotropic plates with various edge conditions and aspect ratios are compared with solutions of the new method. With only four elements, excellent agreement is obtained. The method is conceptually much simpler than regular finite element methods while maintaining almost the same level of accuracy as the classical solutions, enabling an effective utilization by practicing design engineers.
