Abstract
This paper presents ODESSY, a knowledge-based system for the integrated preliminary design of reinforced concrete multistorey office buildings. ODESSY is based on a model of the design process called SCM (Synthesis-Criticism-Modification), that has been arrived at based on a task analysis of the building design process. Following a brief delineation of the task analysis that was performed and the process model that was subsequently proposed, the salient features of ODESSY are presented. The paper concludes that ODESSY addresses the issues identified as central to integrated preliminary design of buildings.
