Abstract
Novel parametric infinite elements originally extending to infinity are presented. The proposed infinite elements have the merit of simulating various simple and compound decay patterns. First, one dimensional infinite elements are expounded. Then, generalization to derive higher dimensional infinite elements is outlined. The proposed infinite elements are integrated numerically - using the conventional Gauss-Legendre abscissae and weights after being modified for unbounded ranges. The performance of the proposed infinite elements is assessed by solving one-dimensional differential equation, the classical Boussinesq problem, and a soil-structure interaction problem.
