Summary
This chapter discusses grid and cloud portal functionalities, architecture, service execution, security, and plug-ins for integrating tools and applications, and some typical deployments. We will illustrate the integration of a portal framework with data grid capabilities of the storage resource broker, making use of the capabilities of sharing and managing data and metadata in a heterogeneous and distributed environment. We will demonstrate how a grid portal and services can be built to provide shared, standardized and reliable tools for managing and analyzing distributed and heterogeneous biomedical data in order to maximize the results of virtual experiments.
