Summary
This paper presents a comprehensive experimental research programme developed on a stretch of the Portuguese railway network. The main objective of the experimental work was the measurement of the track-ground vibrations generated by railway traffic. A detailed characterization of the track-ground system is fundamental in this context and therefore was also included. In this work, the vibrations due to a pair of different types of trains are presented and discussed. The dispersion of the results during a large set of events is also briefly analysed. The available data contributes to a better understanding of the phenomenon and may be used in the validation of numerical prediction models.
