Summary
This paper studies the effect of the dry friction presence in the ballast structure. The rail is modelled as a beam supported by elastic elements and nonlinear dry friction damping. An impulsive force is applied to the rail to study the effect of nonlinear damping on the system properties, which are substantially different as demonstrated through a set of numerical simulations.
