Abstract
Current approaches adopted for the analysis and design of large scale structures are discussed. Problems encountered during the analysis of large scale structures are summarised and the use of distributed heterogeneous computing is proposed to alleviate these problems. A parallel distributed computing environment is described and a distributed computing network is proposed for carrying out large scale structural analysis and design.
