Abstract
An Expert System is presented for the Design of Roofs of Industrial Buildings and Warehouses. These buildings are rectangular in plan and the roof is designed according to Eurocode 3. The expert system is written in Turbo Prolog. The basic scheme followed for the selection of the structural system is that of Generate and Test. The system generates a number of possible designs by using statically determinate trusses to span these buildings. The trusses are triangular or trapezoidal in shape and the nodal loads due to weight, snow and wind loading are deduced automatically by the system. The analysis of the trusses is performed following a logic program. The system determines the minimum weight or minimum cost design for the entire roof.
