Abstract
An important part of computer integrated design environment is knowledge. This can be coded proceduraly or declaratively. Traditional knowledge based systems separate knowledge (data) from inference engines (procedures) and knowledge from contexts. Traditional object oriented environments that are essential for modelling of building products group data and methods into an object. In the paper architecture of an integrated design environment will be proposed that enables integration of existing tools and programs and utilises a combination of traditional procedural and artificial intelligence (AI) techniques and is based on an object oriented (OO) data model. In this preliminary communication, abstract and data models will be suggested where knowledge becomes the organic part of objects on all levels of complexity forming usually small knowledge islands, hanging from a tree of objects on methods.
