Summary
This paper presents new experience with the application of new materials in the design of rail vehicle components. It also describes examples of laboratory verification focused on the static, dynamic and fatigue properties of these components. The research and development were realized in co-operation with the research institutes, universities and industrial companies on a national and international level and with the support of national grant agencies. This paper is focused on the development of the metro hybrid bodywork where the steel with high yield strength and sandwich composites were applied to the construction of the sidewalls and the roof. The investigation of a smaller model of a functional sample and finite element calculations were performed prior to the strength testing of the real bodywork structure.
