Abstract
The construction of glass walls with minimal structural support has been advanced with the construction of the Facade Bioclimatique of the CS1 Building at La Villette in Paris.

A description of the detailed mode of behaviour of the steel structure and the glass structure is given. The application of tension networks, and cable trusses and their detailed performance requirements are described for the stainless steel structure. The use in the glass structure of special steels, the detailed kinematics of the deflection behaviour, and the assessment of stress concentrations at the local supports on the glass, are described.

The use of non-linear structure analysis methods is described for the understanding of the elastic stability and the variably determinate tension network structures.
