Abstract
Since its inception in 1972 the program suite MOSS has grown to become a widely used surface mapping system. The paper explains the concepts of string modelling and the facilities available within the system. The wide variety of applications, ranging from Airport Layouts to Bus Station Design are summarised to indicate the suite's versatility.
