Abstract
British Standard CP110, 1972 "The Structural Use of Concrete" was revised and re-issued in 1985 as British Standard 8110. This updated Standard includes features which make it possible to develop programs as design aids in the design of reinforced concrete structural components. Because of these features of the new standard such programs can be developed and used with both accuracy and confidence.

This paper describes and discusses the development of such programs including those written by the authors and published in a recent book. Theory, development, programming techniques and program limitations are discussed and examples are given of typical reinforced concrete design programs.
