Abstract
The development of new engineering products is often a complex, expensive, time-consuming process and methods such as Concurrent Engineering and design reuse have been developed to improve this situation. computer technology can be used to develop systems to support these methods. This paper builds on the research already carried out on an existing system to support Concurrent Engineering and process and discusses how the system can be extended to support design reuse. The following extensions are proposed: multiple current released versions; flexibility with ownership of artefacts; extending the database structure to support disciplines and products; extending the version derivation graph to incorporate version states; mechanisms for navigation; support for versioning constraint checks and the provision of versioning metadata.
