Abstract
Layout optimisation of structures, involving changes to topology, geometry and component sizing, is both complex and under-investigated. A technique for the layout optimisation of pin-jointed frameworks based on the principles of Genetic Algorithms is presented. Structural optimisation constraints involving stress, local buckling, and nodal displacement limits are also investigated.
