Abstract
This paper presents the results of ongoing numerical research on the cyclic and dynamic behaviour of saturated sands based on the two phase mixture theory of Biot and using the mixed three field formulation u U p, where u, U and p are the solid displacement, the fluid displacement and the pore fluid pressure respectively. An advanced mixed kinematic hardening model is used to simulate most of the observed laboratory and field features of the material. The performance of the formulation is checked by comparison of triaxial numerical and experimental results to show the usefulness and applicability of using an advanced constitutive model in this type of analysis. This constitutes the first step achieved in order to use the developed program in the future for earthquake induced liquefaction simulation.
