Abstract
In many cases the lifetime of technical structures and components depends on the behaviour of cracks. It is necessary to develop efficient crack simulation methods to estimate crack growth and lifetime.

Within this paper the new program ADAPCRACK for crack propagation simulation under complex loading will be presented. The main focus of ADAPCRACK is the determination of crack paths and component's life as a part of the damage tolerant assessment. It includes all necessary modules of practical relevance and uses ABAQUS for structural analysis. Within ADAPCRACK, the adaption of the special mesh at the crack tip is improved by a new mesh refinement strategy. Furthermore, a new error estimator for the Lamé equations is included. Through the combination of the new methods ADAPCRACK becomes a powerfull and flexible crack simulation tool for the prediction of damage and failures.
