Abstract
This work is concerned with h-adaptive strategy for two-dimensional dynamic analysis of non-linear materials. To deal with the plastic and the viscoplastic behaviors we adopted the overlay model and the Duvaut-Lions flow rule, respectively. In the particular case of von Mises yield condition, with an associative flow rule, the radial return algorithm is employed in each overlay for numerically integrating the rate constitutive equations. Viscoplastic, elastic and plastic responses are obtained by the same computational code only changing the value of the viscosity coefficient. We also explore the capacity of the adaptive strategy to recover the actual response even when the converged solution is completely different from the initial one.
