Abstract
In this paper, a CAD-based system approach to the estimating system in civil engineering is developed. According to the technique of solid modeling, user-defined primitives with attributes are described, and the principle of primitives assembling is defined. As an example, a teaching building in three dimensions was assembled in terms of above principle, and a CAD database was created simultaneously. Using the estimating rule in civil engineering, the engineering drawings are achieved, and the CAD-based estimating system in civil engineering is programmed.
