Abstract
The paper presents the results of a research project undertaken by the Institute of Structural Analysis and Aseismic Research of the National Technical University of Athens, financed by the Public Power Corporation (PPC) of Greece. Namely a large protection grid for the Sfikia Hydro-Electric Power Station has been designed. The behaviour of the protection cable grid, as well as its suspension and support systems have been considered under self weight, temperature effects, dynamic wind loading and hydrodynamic pressures. Analysis has beer] performed taking into account large deformation theory and second order effects. A specific software has been developed. Optimization of elements (type, size, etc.), ensuring safety through an economic solution has been performed on the basis of the analysis results.
