Abstract
Jamie McCullough is a sculptor who has deep understanding of structural behaviour. He was appointed for a total period of 12 months under an EPSRC grant to develop ideas about structural form. In association with this work, an investigation of innovative design was carried out taking into consideration the methodologies used by Jamie McCullough and by people in practice. This paper discusses the results of the latter study, identifying some of the basic principles of innovative design which have been identified.
