Abstract
The application of parallel evolution strategy to the optimal design of laminated composite beams is the object of this study. The discrete optimization problem, formulated in terms of minimization of the weight under constraints on the mechanical behavior of the structure, is presented using ply thicknesses and orientations as design variables, and numerical results are obtained for different case-studies.
