Abstract
The application of multiplicative and additive multilevel preconditioners in the preconditioned conjugate gradient method for solving systems of algebraic equations resulting from finite element discretizations of the Poisson's equation in three-dimensional domains is discussed.

The algorithms are- implemented on parallel machines with MIMD architecture and a message passing communication handling. The non-overlapping domain decomposition data distribution used and the parallelization of the preconditioned conjugate gradient algorithm are described.

The different algorithms are compared by means of a numerical example.
