Abstract
The subdomain generation method (SGM) was devised for the partitioning of planar convex meshes and was later enhanced to include planar non-convex meshes (ESGM). This paper briefly describes both methods and shows how the ESGM can be extended to planar element three-dimensional meshes and meshes composed of solid elements. Included is an overview of genetic algorithms and of the backpropagation neural network for which the importance issue of data representation is considered.
