Abstract
A new kind of transition element called a fission element has been developed for quadrilateral mesh generation. An improved sequential and parallel quadrilateral mesh generation using such elements has been introduced. In this paper a simple but efficient method for transforming a triangular meshes to mixed element type meshes based on such fission elements is presented. It works on a subdomain basis so it is suitable for parallelisation and is scaleable.
