Abstract
Optimization of multi-step wire drawing processes is considered. The mechanical behaviour characterizing the considered technological process is analysed in a discrete form, based on the finite element approach, while the optimization is performed by well-known non-linear mathematical optimization techniques. The investigated problem involves the optimal selection of the extrusion die angles and the correspondent reduction rate sequence. In the optimization procedure a minimum process energy consumption is sought by taking several technological and geometrical constraints into account. The evaluation of numerical results demonstrates that designing by the presented optimization approach results not only in a substantial cost reduction, but also in a considerable improvement of technological properties of the drawn product.
