Abstract
This paper presents a case study of integrated data exchange between the different participants in a building project - the main contractor and the companies representing the different design disciplines (architectural design, structural engineering and HVAC & E engineering). The focus is on the needs of the main contractor in "Design and Construct" type of projects, especially in the early cost estimation and tendering stages of a building project. The system is utilised in real-life building projects. The paper deals with three main aspects in the data communication context: (1) the logical contents and structure of the building information; (2) the representation of the building information in a data exchange format; and (3) network connections and procedures.
