Abstract
In the paper a system architecture conception for a generic framework for intelligent design tools is introduced. Having identified a general approach and paradigm in the development of future CAD tools, it is consequent to unify the development of tools. Our aim is a generic application that can be specialised to a variety of intelligent tools for structural engineering design. The conception is discussed in the context of dedicated prototypes of intelligent design tools. We introduce applications of the framework for preliminary structural design and for reinforcement design.
